Smith 3x3x3 and Kentworth W900 in Mammoet
Well hello group! The summer is drawing to a close and what a great summer it has been. NHRA, NASCAR, IRL, 9 weekends of the Renaissance Faire, DHS open house and RUSH live in concert-wow! Well now that its turning to fall its time to get my rear end back into the shop and back to modeling. Over the summer I did manage to work on a couple of things, mostly one project for myself when I had the time. I had ordered a Alan Smith kit for the Trail King 3x3x3 lowboy and then one of his Kentworth W900 8x4 tractor.
So slowly over the summer I built the trailer, with some forum help for those of you who might remember-thank you for your pictures at the time and for the advice of some others on a few flaws I had built in. A great place this forum. I also needed help with chroming the parts and once the again the forum helped. I tried Copy Chrome and that did not work so well, at least for me, so I got some help from Alan and had the parts nickel plated-looks just as good chrome.
Then it was time to assemble the parts and pieces. The tractor was interesting build and if you have never done a Smith model, its all about patience. Take your time, work with the pieces and fit them together, Mock up, mock up and more mock up are the key. For those of you who have put them together you know what I mean. The final result though is awesome and I could not be happier with how it turned out.
And I bet you can never ever guess what livery it got!!!!! For your viewing pleasure:
