Manitowoc 16000 In Mammoet Part II
Well it here it is! The eagerly awaited Part II of my Manitowoc 16000 repaint! As I said
in Part I, I never really intended on owning this crane but had bought one any way. I had
never really intended on repainting it to Mammoet colors as they did not own one. Then, I
think just to spite me, Mr. X had Mammoet but not only one, but three of them for “windmill
projects”-yea right. I think they bought them just to make me have to repaint one!! (Okay
so I continue to be somewhat delusional-but at least I am consistent with my delusions).
We take up the continuing story of the repaint with the entire crane taken apart. I ad
repainted the crawlers and other parts that need to be red. I removed the Manitowoc decals
with a bit of lacquer thinner on a q-tip. I then painted over the sides with one light
coat of the red, matching the tracks. Now it became the hard part, masking off the
irregular contours of the crane body.

Then to the paint booth for some black paint

Now for my absolute favorite part of any Mammoet model repaint, the remove of the masking
tape!

Boom tips painted black, counter weights painted back, miscellaneous parts painted black,
all things neding to be red are red-looks like its time to reassemble!

First up-the crawlers:

Next, get the crane upper works back together and reattached to the car body

Crawlers and counter weights back on

And my second favorite part of cranes, revving with Musky Master!

Some dude attaching a boom

Replacing the ugly Manitowoc placards with proper Mammoet ones and revving the blocks

And the finished crawler complete with decals

Up your boom!

Standing tall and proud

And finally amongst its brothers!

Thanks for looking and keep on lifting!!!
