Manitowoc 16000 Converted to Mammoet Part I
Well hello fellow forum members!! It has been one heck of a summer here! 10 weeks of
Renaissance Faire, RUSH in concert, NASCAR Races, IRL Races, weddings and a new hobby, bull
whip cracking! Man am I glad to be heading back into the shop for some relaxing model
work. So I started this a couple of weeks ago as summer was winding down and I thought the
first project of the season would be for me.
So with my favorite livery, which for those of you who may have forgotten, Mammoet using
Manitowoc 16000’s for the wind mill industry, I decided to tackle one of the TWH Manitowoc
16000’s as a repaint.
Of course the first part of the project is to take the sucker apart. This thing was a
beast! To get the crawler body off you basically have to disassemble the entire upper
works, starting at the back and working your way forward. It was slow going as this crane
is really detailed and has lots of parts. Finally after some patience I got to the screw
that holds the upper works to crawler body. After that the rest starts to look like a
regular project!
Call this Part One: Things That Are Black, Paint them Red!

Oh yea and I did mention a new hobby-bullwhip cracking! What a great deal of fun, every
swing of the whip brings a nice destructive crack! And you can even whip people too!
