Freightliner Cabover Tractor and Drop Deck Trailer
Good Day Group! Has everybody had enough winter yet?? I for one have had it! I have been trying to be busy in the shop, but with so much snow removal, it been hard. And then you have a real warm day of rain and what happens? The shop floods! No models were hurt!
Ah well, back to normal here-a model converted to Mammoet. Ever since I did one for bluebarn, I have wanted my own Freightliner cabover for the fleet. There are not of the cabover’s left running around any more and I liked the look of this one. I even added a few extra’s I had to dress it up a bit.
Here we have the base model that I started with.

The tractor came with a tanker style trailer that just wouldn’t do, so I used this real pretty aqua single drop deck to the conversion, seen in its dis-assembled state.

And the parts back from the spray booth, painted and ready for sub-assembly work.

I wanted to show a sequence of the white cab roof. Most Mammoet models have the black with red strip. A lot of the tractors, both here and aboard have the white roof, which calls for a double masking. After experimenting several times, I determined that the white is best left for last. I sprayed red, masked and the sprayed the black. I then masked off the cab, first with tape keeping just the area to be painted. I then wrapped the entire model in plastic wrap, and taped that down as well. White primer went on the roof, then the gloss white enamel. and here is the unveiling:

Next we start assembly with the rolling chassis

Add the motor and the tilt cab

And the rest of the parts pieces and accessories

Here is the completed unit fresh from the decal shop and on the big crane table

I hope you enjoyed the post and THINK SPRING!!!!
