Good evening all (morning to those it applies to!)!!
AS promised here are the pics of the Mammoet AC500. Wish I could fully rig it for you all, but as you know we are moving and I have to keep the toys to a, well none at all actually. So I get to have this one out for a day a two and then it gets packed up!! This is a very nice crane and I think you all know how I feel about the livery. I find the gloss black and bright red a very appealing color. I know they do not stay that way in the field, but I like the models!
I do have to say I was surprised by the color of the boom sections being all black. I was expecting all red. I went to Mammoet’s web site and looked at their fleet picture of the AC500 and it looks like its all black with worn off red stripes on top so I guess it is close to the real thing. Then I looked at the AC650 pics and one was all red with Mammoet on each section, and one was half black and half red. The other crane models I have from Mammoet have all red booms and boom tips.
I have been painting all my boom tips black with the boom itself being red as I do see that on almost all the cranes on the Mammoet web site. I begin to wonder if it’s the model manufacturer, the crane painter or both that are painting the real ones and the models different!?! Maybe different guys in Mammoet’s yard paint them different!?!
Well if that’s the only bad thing to say, there sure are a lot of good things to say, as many of you know already owning this crane in the two factory color versions out there. I like the counter weight tray holding block so you can play self assembly of the counter weight. And counter weights are best delivered with a Pete 379!!
I was also pleased to see the lufting jib red. Why the GMK7550 had the stock silver painted lufting jib I can not guess (mines scheduled for a repaint at the new house). Lufting jib parts also look nice on Pete 379’s.
I can not wait for a new full fleet photo!!
