Oshkosh Cement Mixer Part 1

Welcome to a most unusual post from me. Now, most of you know my obsession with Mammoet. I really do like that livery and all the things I have learned about them. I have made several cyber friends within Mammoet and am enjoying that aspect of the hobby immensely. As many of you know, quite by accident, I have a little cottage industry going painting things in the Mammoet livery. A while ago I as approached to try something different. And I agreed, so tonight I bring Part One of the story.

I was asked to see if I could make a new model from two existing models, one being the Oshkosh snowplow truck crossed with an IH5600i cement mixer. I was given a picture of the target truck to make. I am sure glad I undertook this project as I have found this it be a very stimulating project. So I thought I would share this project with you, at least part one.

Here we start with the two target trucks

And the process begins by removing the dump and the mixer, now all I should have to do is smash them together at high speed.

After playing around with it and consulting with one of my forum friends (mr. jeepin) I decided that the best way to get the two frames together and get the correct stance was to cut them apart, grind off all the suspension from the Oshkosh and the grind the frames down to the point where they had the truck sitting level when put together.

All of the following pictures have the parts and pieces stuck together with a touch of crazy glue, just for mock up purposes. Ultimately it will be affixed using my favorite forever epoxy, JB Weld.

The frame:

The added on pieces to square up the frame

Wheels and axles on

A close up of the frame add on pieces and the relocation of the rear tail lights

Here is the mixer sitting on the frame in its place

And here is the final shot for tonight, a mock up of the rig with the cab. Notice that the cab has been stripped of everything. There are a zillion little pieces on the cab, but that’s what will make this model!

Talk with you all later!

Bob
