Recipe for LR1280 Mammoet Part 3

Welcome back to our show! Tonight we continue on with the third installment of a recipe for LR1280 Mammoet. We certainly have some fun with this and tonight we get to continue on with the recipe. A quick review of parts one and two-disassemble, strip, prime and paint-well it was quick review because you can always watch the first two parts in reruns right here on DHS, using the search function on your TV screen or go to my web page where you can purchase a copy of the show for your very own!

Tonight we take our painted parts and begin the re assembly process and then add the final touches in the decal stage! This promises to be a fun and exciting episode so lets dig right in with the first reassembly!

As some of you viewers have guessed and seen, I am pretty anal about organization and keeping things in there place and doing it in a certain order. I find this leaves no part of the project undone and avoids having to do messy clean ups twice-lets face it I do not have a huge off camera staff like some other TV shows!! So that said I find it easiest to start from the ground up!

Going to our finished ingredients pile I reassemble the crawlers first by adding the two wheels and then snapping the tracks back in place. A quick rub across the palm (with an optional vroom sound said out loud) to verify that they travel freely and its done. Repeat as necessary.

Then with clean hands, very carefully reinsert the clear windshield into the operators cab. Place the window in until it clicks in place, then add the control chair, again snapping into place. Then attach the metal base plate with screw removed in part one and wha-la…..

Then on to the crane carrier body. Replace the winch drum assembly, add the pulleys and replace the metal covers and exhaust stack. Add the upper frame work and you have a great looking model coming together….

Mount to the crawler carrier, lightly applying some automotive grease to the inner ring and the top of the ring insert. Tighten the screw and check for rotation….

Reassemble the four boom sections with pulleys, frame and winch drums. Refer to the pictures you took before disassembly to make sure of proper positioning and the correct number of pulleys in each place!

And here we have both trafdeputy and my cranes completely reassembled in there original form.

Now for the decorating portion of the show. Referring to numerous photos of Mammoet’s fleet I have chosen a decal scheme that should reflect one of their cranes, yet still leave a little room for artistic license.

First up, safety striping the hook block-I like to use cherry and vanilla icing (HA HA)…..

Next up is our assembled crane body-looking good enough to eat!!

A decal for the mast head

Safety triangles for the counter weights and a few Liehberr’s here and there…

And here we pose the two crane bodies next to each other for a group picture…

Well that’s all the time we have tonight. Trafedeputy’s will be boxed up and made ready to ship, and in our next episode we will assemble mine to show off the completed product and see the fruits of all our labors. Until next time, may all your models arrive in the mail tomorrow!!!
